About Me

Kayla M Colon
Artist from Brooklyn, New York

Art has always been my home.
I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, in a lively Afro-Puerto Rican family, where graffiti, music, dance, culture, and creativity was endless and pure joy for me. That rhythm continues to move through my work today. What began as a quiet love for creating slowly unfolded into a daily ritual for healing, processing and expressing myself.

The Lotus flower lives at the heart of my practice. Growing through mud before it blossoms into a perfect flower, it reminds me that resilience, and beautiful rebirths exist together. Each piece I create is a meditation on that cycle of life — the act of becoming again and again.

Trippy Little Lotus began six years ago, after I fell in love with painting in my dorm at Vanderbilt University. With time, I developed my craft through constant practice and taking courses with the most incredible art professors, who introduced me to artists around the globe, and exposed me to new ways of viewing and creating art. I work primarily with acrylic & oil painting on canvas, murals, clothing, and more. Trippy Little Lotus also includes digital art, pottery, and mixed media that I enjoy. My work is both personal and community based: mindful art and soulful events that spark something in people, bringing us together through art and love. I truly enjoy making precious things for others, that they can see a piece of beauty, hope, a dream, a memory, or some raw emotion in.

I believe that we are infinite, and art is a reflection of us that can be, if we allow it. Welcome to my little universe ~
